Happy New Year - Thai style!!!! 2551
04/13/51 - 04/14/51 (13/04/08 - 14/04/08) Wet! Wet! Wet! oh and lots of talcum powder……we went out on the 13th to do a quick run for water and bread and what a sight the whole of Hua Hin gone mad…. it was totally hilarious. The local people stand by the side of the the road (any rd main or small) with huge drums of cold water and hose pipes. Any one passing by whether walking, bike or in car gets doused with water and talcum powder. We got soaked….. being a Ferang (tourist) does not count you out of the celebration. We ended up at Market Village (Tesco) and they were having a huge water party with a bubble machine, water hoses, disco and dancers!!! Tehya loved it and needless to say we had to get right in to the middle of it and get even more wet…. it was great fun!!! We finished the day with our usual swim at MyWay and then went home. We decided to eat in rather than face the hoards of party goers!!! It is a two day festival and we had been warned that the water throwing goes on for the whole time so the following day we went out prepared in the same clothes from the previous day (they dried over night). Tehya was mighty disappointed as not one person was out with water buckets!!! We saw many cars, vans and tuk tuk with white powder streaks but no water anywhere….. until that evening when we went out for dinner and the only street in Hua Hin (ours), a group of young men happened to be carrying on the party. We got soaked again!!! It did not seem quite as funny, although we did managed to smile and Tehya thought it was wonderful and was very pleased. We sat through dinner wet and soggy….. Gav cheered up because he finally managed to get his hair cut and it was a good one. The guy that did it spoke not a word of English but Gavin managed to get his point across with a succession of mimes, face pulling and nodding!!!!! He did well!!!
