Leaving Mira Beach

view from our bungalow on Mira beachWhat a wonderful time we have had, it is crazy but every day that goes by you can feel your self slipping away from the ability to tell the day of the week or what month it is. Mira Beach with its back drop of ever green forest and coconut trees has to be one of the most delightful places on these islands. Mira beach, Pulau KecilIt is so different from most of the other resorts because it sits alone, truly unique with its own ambiance and the family that own it really help to make it that way. We have experienced real warmth and welcome, they have been especially lovely with Tehya, always chatting with her - asking her what she has been doing, playing games and making sure she is happy. Their son Anas has been a real added bonus to our stay his mum and dad allowed him a week off school so that he and Tehya could spend more time together. It has been a treat to watch their friendship grow and develop and it has been all the more enjoyable to watch them over come the language barrier -which has not been a barrier at all. Tehya and Anas at Mira BeachThey laugh, share and argue their way through the day with humor and fun. On a few occasions we adventured off through the jungle to get to Coral Bay and experience different beaches and eat at other restaurants. We used the internet too, but this proved to be a pain when it was fairly slow and you were clock watching your time and we decided not to bother again. Gavin joined some of the people we met staying at Mira Beach on a day of snorkeling, they visited five different sites around the islands all for 30MR about six pounds. Monkey Beach on the way to Coral BayIn all we stayed 17 days on the islands and really only decided to leave after we had a day when the jelly fish were quite prolific and we all got stung fairly badly. It was not a major concern as they are not poisonous but very irritating and itchy. We took Tehya to the local medical clinic just to be safe and the nurse said no sunshine and no swimming until the stings had gone. Well you try keeping a 3 year old fish girl out of the sea when her new best friend and everyone else at the resort are having so much fun in the sea. She felt left out and very unhappy - so we decided the best thing to do was to head off. It seemed too harsh being in such a perfect location and not able to enjoy the two main attractions available - sun and sea. We had a lovely last few days even with itchy skin and it felt a little sad to be saying goodbye. On the upside Anas was also leaving the island on the same day and we have arranged to meet him and his dad in Kota Bharu to indulge in some local cultural experiences!!!

  1. glad to hear you are still having fun,how come kids never seem to mind the language difference they still communicate with no apparent problem,i think ESP has something to do with it,pity about them jelly fish spoiling the fun, weather here a bit grey today with a drizzle of rain but reasonably mild about 16 degrees, its the mayday bank holiday weekend so a few tourists about, main news of the week is the conservatives win at the local elections and boris johnson becoming the mayor of london ousting ken livingstone, but all that wont change life for us peons, bye for now from Terry
