Kota Bharu (Kota Baru as some sites spell it)
{w:400;h:300} Map of Kota Bharu North Eastern Malaysia!!!!
We are staying in Kota Bharu for a few days as the bus to Penang is fully booked until Tuesday. The tickets are from the international bus station called Langgar located just down from the Renaissance Hotel on Sultan Yahya Petra rd. They cost 28RM each for me and Hanna and 21RM for Tehya total cost about 12 pounds. We have decided to visit Penang a place we last visited in 2001 and generally always hated while we were there but some how we are always drawn back as its a good stepping point to get to different places like Thailand and Sumatra in Indonesia. Penang is also one of the best places for the full range of international foods we especially like the Indian food.
Anyway we didn’t do too much in Kota Bharu other than walk around a few times, visit the night market to buy some pirate DVD videos and eat at a great Chinese restaurant called Golden City just down from our hotel called Flora Place, room prices range from 140RM to 198RM (including breakfast) a little more than we would normally pay but we wanted air con for a night or two. It has some excellent food Hanna especially likes the Thai style Tofu with extra chillies. I ate some pork and we drank a few bottles of Tiger beer which cost 15RM (about 2.20p not cheap but also not easy to get in a strict Islamic city). Overall we neither love or hate Kota Bharu but feel we wouldn’t go out of our way to stay there if we didn’t have to stop over to go to the Perhentian Islands.
