A compact fishing harbour on Cornwall’s south coast, known for its whitewashed cottages, winding lanes, harbour life and direct access to the South West Coast Path.

Polperro at a glance

Fishing-harbour character, coastal walking and a slower south-coast day

Polperro is built around a narrow tidal harbour, with cottages and small lanes rising above the water. The compact centre rewards a slower visit: take time for the harbour, local food and short sections of coast path rather than trying to drive through the historic core.

The village developed around fishing and smuggling-era coastal trade, and its sheltered harbour remains central to its identity. Today it is a useful base for a day on the South Cornwall coast, with Talland and Lansallos giving walkers a choice of longer extensions.

Start with the water, then choose a café, pub, beach window or local attraction. The most useful plan is flexible: tide, weather, gradients and summer demand all affect how much fits comfortably into a day.
