Know before you go

Constantine Bay: a wide, dune-backed surf beach about 3 miles west of Padstow, next to Treyarnon

Constantine Bay is a small village and beach on the Atlantic coast of north Cornwall, in the parish of St Merryn. It lies about three miles west of Padstow, within the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It takes its name from Saint Constantine, a 6th century Cornish saint.

The beach is a wide sweep of soft, gently shelving sand backed by dunes, with rocks at each end. It is popular for surfing and swimming, and RNLI lifeguards patrol in the main season. Strong currents are common, so bathing and surfing are sometimes banned. Check the warning notices before you go in.

Trevose Head and Constantine Bay are a Site of Special Scientific Interest for their wildlife and geology. The dunes are fragile and suffer from erosion, so keep to the marked paths. St Constantine's Well can be reached by a public right of way across Trevose Golf Club's course.

A little planning goes a long way

Before you book your Constantine Bay stay

Two properties can look close on a map and still involve a very different journey. Ask about the whole stay, from unloading your bags to getting back after an evening out.

Parking and arrival

Parking in Constantine Bay: Car park with toilets behind the beach, about a 10 minute walk from the sand. Ask whether parking is on site, reserved elsewhere or in a public car park, and confirm unloading arrangements and the walk with luggage.

Hills, steps and access

Ask the host about the route from the street to your room, lift access, bathroom layout and any steps inside. A central address or harbour view does not tell you whether a property suits your mobility needs.

Families and dogs

Confirm the room layout, cot or extra bed arrangements and any dog restrictions directly. For cottages, check outside space and where you can unload. Do not assume a whole property, parking or pet permission is included.
