Know before you go

Gorran Haven: a south coast fishing cove near Mevagissey, with Vault Beach and Dodman Point next door

Gorran Haven is an old fishing village on Cornwall's south coast, about two miles south of Mevagissey. It lies in St Goran parish, within the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Its Cornish name is Porthust.

The village sits in a cove between two beaches, with stone and whitewashed cottages on steep, narrow streets. The first pier was built in the 15th century, and it was rebuilt in the 1820s and again in 1888. In the 18th and 19th centuries, barges brought goods here from Fowey.

Vault Beach, also called Bow Beach, lies to the south. It is about a mile long and made of fine shingle, and it is reached by a steep path, so it is usually quiet. Great Perhaver Beach lies to the north.

A little planning goes a long way

Before you book your Gorran Haven stay

Two properties can look close on a map and still involve a very different journey. Ask about the whole stay, from unloading your bags to getting back after an evening out.

Parking and arrival

Parking in Gorran Haven: Privately owned village car park with number plate recognition. Street parking is very limited. Ask whether parking is on site, reserved elsewhere or in a public car park, and confirm unloading arrangements and the walk with luggage.

Hills, steps and access

Ask the host about the route from the street to your room, lift access, bathroom layout and any steps inside. A central address or harbour view does not tell you whether a property suits your mobility needs.

Families and dogs

Confirm the room layout, cot or extra bed arrangements and any dog restrictions directly. For cottages, check outside space and where you can unload. Do not assume a whole property, parking or pet permission is included.
