Know before you go
Port Isaac is a small fishing village on the Atlantic coast of north Cornwall. The nearest towns are Wadebridge and Camelford, each about ten miles away. The village lies on the South West Coast Path, and the hamlet of Port Gaverne next door is sometimes counted as part of it.
The harbour has a long history. The pier dates from the reign of Henry VIII, and the port once handled coal, wood, stone and salt. Pilchard fishing was the main trade for centuries, and in 1850 there were 49 registered fishing boats here. Fishermen still land fish, crab and lobster at the Platt by the harbour.
Tourism became the village's main business after the First World War. Today Port Isaac is best known as the setting of the ITV series Doc Martin, which ran from 2004 to 2022 and was filmed here under the made up name Portwenn. It is also home to the Fisherman's Friends, a sea shanty group formed in 1995, whose story was told in two feature films.

A little planning goes a long way
Two properties can look close on a map and still involve a very different journey. Ask about the whole stay, from unloading your bags to getting back after an evening out.
Find places to eat in Port IsaacParking in Port Isaac: Cornwall Council long stay car park on New Road, PL29 3SB. Ask whether parking is on site, reserved elsewhere or in a public car park, and confirm unloading arrangements and the walk with luggage.
Ask the host about the route from the street to your room, lift access, bathroom layout and any steps inside. A central address or harbour view does not tell you whether a property suits your mobility needs.
Confirm the room layout, cot or extra bed arrangements and any dog restrictions directly. For cottages, check outside space and where you can unload. Do not assume a whole property, parking or pet permission is included.
