About St Mary’s Boatmen’s Association

St Mary’s Boatmen’s Association runs scheduled launches from the quay to the off islands and Samson, and also offers wildlife trips around the islands.

Getting out on the water

The association is based at The Quay on St Mary’s. From here, you can join a scheduled launch to the off islands and Samson. These services connect the main island with the smaller islands, so you can plan a day exploring further afield.

If you prefer to stay on the water, the association also runs daily circular wildlife trips. These visit the seal and seabird colonies and lighthouses. During the main season, evening trips are available too. Because these are boat-based excursions, you get a different view of the islands and their wildlife.

Nearby places to explore

Before or after your trip, you might spend time at one of the nearby beaches. Town Beach is close to The Quay, and Porthcressa Beach is a short walk away. Also nearby are Porthmellon Beach and Porthloo Beach. Further afield, you can visit Old Town Bay or Burnt Island. These spots offer a chance to relax by the sea or take a coastal walk.

Whether you are heading to the off islands or joining a wildlife trip, St Mary’s Boatmen’s Association provides a practical way to see more of the Isles of Scilly. The scheduled launches and circular trips make it easy to get out on the water and enjoy the scenery, wildlife and fresh sea air.
