A pedestrianised route leads from the car park up through the centre to street level on Market Jew Street, which makes it the easiest way into town for anyone arriving by car, and the railway and bus stations are a short walk along the harbour front. The shops are a mix of national retailers and local specialists, with units ranging from small kiosks to large stores, and there are flats above. Footfall figures of more than 1.4 million visits a year give an idea of how much it is used by residents as well as visitors. It is not an attraction in the usual sense; think of it as the practical starting point for a day in Penzance, with the harbour and the rest of the town centre within a few minutes on foot.
