About Garrison Walls

The Garrison Walls encircle the headland beside Hugh Town on St Mary’s, the main historic defences of the Isles of Scilly. Defences date from the 1590s to the 18th century. Follow the circular walk along the ramparts in about two hours, with information panels and views over the off islands, past features such as the Sallyport. Opposite the main gate, the Powder House holds a free exhibition with a 3D map, open daily 8am to 4.30pm. Entry is free and the walls are cared for by English Heritage.
