Britain’s most southerly village

Landewednack on the tip of Cornwall

The village known as The Lizard is the settlement of Landewednack, the most southerly village on mainland Britain. It sits inland of Lizard Point, where the twin lighthouse towers mark the English Channel and the rocky waters beyond.

The peninsula is known for serpentine rock, clifftop heath and short walks to Church Cove, Polpeor and Kynance. The village itself is a practical base, with pubs, cafés, shops and the road out to the Point.

Come for the headland and the light, then use the map for places to stay, eat and explore nearby. Paths are exposed Atlantic cliff. Check the wind, and keep back from unfenced edges.
