About Pentewan Valley Trail

The Pentewan Valley Trail is a flat, mostly hard surfaced trail for cycling and walking through the wooded valley between St Austell and the coast at Pentewan. At around 3.5 miles end to end it is short and gentle, which makes it one of the easiest family rides in Cornwall and suitable for all ages and abilities. It forms part of National Cycle Network Route 3 and follows the line of the old Pentewan Railway, first built in 1829 as a horse drawn tramway, relaid as a narrow gauge railway in 1874 and closed in 1918. The trail can be joined from Pentewan or from small car parks along the valley road. Cycle hire is available in Pentewan. The beach and harbour at Pentewan make a good turning point, and The Lost Gardens of Heligan are close by. It suits families with young children and leisure cyclists.
