About Liskeard & District Museum

Liskeard and District Museum occupies Foresters Hall, a nineteenth century building by local architect Henry Rice on Pike Street in the centre of Liskeard, and shares its reception and shop with the town's Tourist Information Centre. The museum began as a one room display in the Public Hall, opened in 1985, and moved to the converted Foresters Hall in 2002, when it was officially opened by the then Prince of Wales. It is owned by Liskeard Town Council and run day to day by a museum manager and volunteers. Four galleries, named after local figures John Allen, Henry Rice, John Rapson and Daniel Gumb, cover the town's social history, trade and commerce, agriculture, costume and textiles, weapons and war, religion, archaeology and the mining industry that made Liskeard prosperous in the nineteenth century, with a children's corner and a research collection of documents and photographs. Entry is free, dogs are welcome, and a lift gives access to every floor, with public toilets including an accessible one; the approach is on a slope and there is no dedicated parking, so use the town car parks. It opens Monday to Saturday, with a shorter Saturday morning. Allow around an hour. It suits local history enthusiasts and anyone planning to explore the Caradon mining country on Bodmin Moor.
