About Victoria Gardens

Victoria Gardens is Truro's Victorian-style public park, laid out on a steep south-facing slope beside the River Kenwyn on the western edge of the city centre and entered through the small Waterfall Gardens. Paths climb between mature trees, shrubs and formal flower beds to a bandstand near the top, where bands play on Saturday afternoons between May and September, and a small cafe called Polen opens through the summer months. The slope means the upper paths give a view back over the city and the cathedral spires, but it also means the paths are steep. The gardens are managed by Truro City Council and open from dawn to dusk, free of charge. Parking is beneath the railway viaduct, reached from Carew Road, and the city centre shops, the bus station and the railway station are all within ten minutes on foot. Allow half an hour for a wander, or longer with a picnic on a concert day. It suits a break from shopping and anyone who wants a quiet green space close to the centre. Boscawen Park by the river, with its play area and tennis courts, is the city's larger alternative.
