About Windmill Farm Nature Reserve

Windmill Farm is an 85 hectare Cornwall Wildlife Trust nature reserve about a mile north of Lizard village, reached from the A3083. A former dairy farm bought in 2001, it is now managed for lowland heathland, including rare Cornish heath, and forms part of the Lizard Special Area of Conservation. More than 30 pools and scrapes have been created, and 17 species of dragonfly and damselfly are recorded regularly, along with good birdlife. Two waymarked trails cross the site: a nature trail and a Second World War trail that passes former RAF Predannack buildings. The old windmill tower marks the small car park, which has room for about ten cars on a rough approach road. The ground is uneven and can be waterlogged in winter, and it is not suitable for pushchairs. Dogs are not allowed, and cattle graze from about April to October. May to August is the best time to visit. It suits naturalists and walkers.
