About Lostwithiel Museum

Lostwithiel Museum is a small local history museum in the centre of Lostwithiel, housed in the Georgian Corn Exchange and the adjoining older Town Gaol. Admission is free and there is disabled access, so you can call in whatever else you plan to do that day.

What you will find inside

Local people donated the exhibits, and photographs record the social history of the town since the early days of photography. The reference section holds parish records, directories and information on the town’s history, which helps if you are tracing a family connection. The museum also publishes a local history journal twice a year and sells booklets of local interest, so you can take a little of the town’s story home with you.

A volunteer-run museum in the town centre

Volunteers staff the museum, so your visit supports the people who keep this collection going. The town sits at the head of the Fowey estuary on the A390 between St Austell and Liskeard. After you look round, a walk by the River Fowey makes a pleasant next stop. Free car parks by the Community Centre, at the Quay and at Coulson Park help if you drive in.
