Where is Wheal Prosper engine house?

Wheal Prosper stands on the cliffs at Rinsey Head, near the hamlet of Rinsey in Breage parish. It is a short walk from the National Trust car park. The mine worked from 1860 to 1866.

Where do you park for Rinsey Head?

The National Trust has a small car park at Rinsey, and donations are welcome. You can also start at Praa Sands car park, TR20 9TQ, and follow a 3.7 mile coast path loop past Rinsey Head and back.

Can you get to Rinsey beach?

Yes, but only at low tide. A steep, loose path leads down from near the engine house over slippery rocks. Check tide times, as you can be cut off, and there is a risk of rockfall.

Is Rinsey cove safe for swimming?

There is no lifeguard cover, and waves and currents can be strong. Take extra care if you swim, and check tide times first.

Are there toilets or a cafe at Rinsey?

No. The nearest toilets and refreshments are at Praa Sands or Porthleven, by the coast path or by road.

Can I take my dog to Rinsey?

Yes, but from October to February Dartmoor ponies may graze the cliffs. Keep dogs on a lead around them and do not feed or approach the ponies. Rinsey is not on Cornwall Council's list of beaches with dog restrictions.
