About Fowey River Ferry

Two ferries run by the Polruan boatbuilders C. Toms and Son link Fowey with the eastern bank of the river. The Polruan passenger ferry crosses the harbour mouth in a few minutes, leaving roughly every 10 to 15 minutes during service hours, every day of the year except Christmas Day. In summer daytime it leaves from the Whitehouse slipway on the Esplanade, a few minutes' walk from Fore Street; in winter and on summer evenings it uses Town Quay in the centre of town, and in Polruan it lands at the quay. Fares are paid on board, dogs on leads, bicycles and pushchairs are all carried, and staff help with pushchairs where they can, but both landings are by steps and slipway so wheelchairs cannot be rolled straight on; ring ahead if you need help. There are no toilets on board but public toilets at both quays. The Bodinnick car ferry runs a continuous daily service from Caffa Mill, carrying up to 15 vehicles a crossing. Both ferries open up the Hall Walk, the circular route via Bodinnick and Polruan with views over the harbour, and the South West Coast Path towards Lantic Bay. Service stops only in unsafe conditions, usually winter gales, with updates posted on the operator's Facebook page.
