About Launceston Steam Railway

Launceston Steam Railway is a 2½ mile narrow gauge line through the Kensey Valley in Cornwall, and every train is hauled by restored Victorian steam locomotives. You buy tickets from the ticket office when you arrive, because no booking is required.

Two stations to explore

The line has two stations, one at Launceston and another at Newmills. Launceston Station has a museum and a gift and book shop, so it is worth allowing time there before or after your ride. At Newmills you can step off and pick up the return train later in the day.

Planning your visit

The car park can only be accessed through Newport Industrial Estate, so follow that route rather than looking for another entrance. If you are spending the day in Launceston, the town centre is a short walk away, and Lawrence House Museum makes an easy next stop after the railway.
