About Pentire Headland

Pentire Headland is the long finger of land on the western side of Newquay, with Fistral Beach on one side and the Gannel estuary on the other. It is a lovely place for a bracing walk, with wide Atlantic views and a good spot for watching the sun go down.

What to expect

The South West Coast Path loops around the headland, past Lewinnick Lodge and the rocky shore at its tip. From the northern side you look across Fistral Bay, the home of British surfing, where big swells funnel in between the headlands. On the southern side the path drops towards the Gannel, and at low tide you can carry on to Crantock beach.

Finding Pentire Headland

Address: Pentire Headland, Newquay, Cornwall TR7 1QD. There is a car park at the top of the headland, served by the number 58 bus from Newquay town centre.

Good to know

The cliffs are high and exposed, so keep to the path and stay well back from the edge, especially in strong winds.
