Tintagel is best known for its castle, long associated with the legends of King Arthur, but the village rewards more than one stop. The coast, village cafés and shops, and routes toward the beach and headland create a genuinely full visitor day.

The defining landmark
The castle occupies a spectacular promontory connected to the mainland by a bridge. Its medieval archaeology and later Arthurian associations are both part of the experience, with English Heritage providing the current visitor information.
Allow enough time for the approach, the site and the return. The coast views are exceptional, but exposed terrain and changing weather mean this is not a casual stroll.
