This is one of Cornwall's quieter spots with few or no facilities on site. Bring what you need for the day, and take litter home.

A first visit works well with time on the sand, then Lizard for food, a walk, or the next cove along the coast.

Frequently asked questions about Pentreath

How far is Lizard Point from Lizard village?

Lizard Point is about half a mile from the bus stop in Lizard village. The National Trust car park is signposted and sits opposite the lighthouse. It is not suitable for coaches or large motorhomes, which should use the green in the village.

Can you visit Lizard Lighthouse?

Lizard Lighthouse dates from 1752 and is run by Trinity House. The Lizard Lighthouse Heritage Centre, in the old engine room, has exhibits on the light and its keepers. Check the heritage centre's own website for opening times before you go.

How do you get to Kynance Cove?

Drive to the National Trust car park off the A3083, then walk about 10 minutes down a path that is steep in places, with steps onto the beach. There is no vehicle access to the cove. You can also walk about 2.5 miles along the coast path from Lizard Point. The car park is extremely busy in July, August and September and closes when full.

Are dogs allowed at Kynance Cove?

A seasonal council ban applies on the beach from 1 July to 31 August, 10am to 6pm. Dogs are welcome on the beach from September to June, and on the heathland and clifftop paths all year. Keep dogs on a lead near wildlife.

Is there a pub in Lizard village?

Yes, the Top House Inn is on The Square, TR12 7NQ. It is a St Austell Brewery pub with a bar facing the village square, food, rooms and a garden, and it is dog and family friendly.

What is there to do on the Lizard?

Walk to Lizard Point and spot seals and choughs from the Wildlife Watchpoint, then visit the lighthouse heritage centre. Swim or explore the rock stacks at Kynance Cove at low tide, and see the Lizard Wireless Station at Bass Point. You can also watch exercise launches at the RNLI lifeboat station at Church Cove.
