About Trethevy Quoit

Trethevy Quoit is a well preserved Neolithic burial chamber standing in a field near the village of Darite, on the south eastern edge of Bodmin Moor a few miles north of Liskeard. Five upright stones support a huge sloping capstone, and the whole structure rises about 2.7 metres, which makes it one of the most striking prehistoric monuments in east Cornwall. It is in the care of English Heritage, with free entry at any reasonable time in daylight, and there is a small parking area right next to the site, so it is one of the easiest ancient sites in the county to visit. Allow around 20 minutes. It combines well with other monuments close by, including King Doniert's Stone, a pair of carved 9th century cross fragments, and the Hurlers stone circles near Minions, all within a short drive. There are no facilities on site, but St Cleer and Darite are close at hand. The field can be wet underfoot after rain, so sensible footwear helps.
