About Tregrehan Garden

Tregrehan Garden is a family run woodland garden between St Austell and Fowey, described by its owners as Cornwall's temperate rainforest. The sheltered setting and high rainfall suit very large trees, and the garden is known for its massive conifers and broadleaves set among woodland and parkland, with a range of Victorian glasshouses holding tender and exotic plants. It is run on a deliberately non commercial basis, so expect a quiet, uncrowded visit rather than a busy visitor attraction with a big shop and restaurant. The garden opens to the public on set spring open days and on Wednesday afternoons through the summer and autumn, with other visits possible by prior arrangement, so it is worth checking the website before setting out. A couple of hours is enough to walk the main paths, though plant enthusiasts could spend longer. It appeals most to serious gardeners and tree lovers, and to anyone who prefers a peaceful alternative to the larger Cornish estate gardens nearby. Self catering cottages on the estate are let separately. Tregrehan lies just off the A390 at Tregrehan Mills, a short drive from St Austell, Charlestown and the Eden Project.
