About Old Blockhouse

The Old Blockhouse is a small 16th century gun tower on a low headland above Old Grimsby harbour on the east side of Tresco. Built in the late 1540s to protect the harbour, it saw action in the late Civil War, and substantial ruins survive above a sandy beach. Entry is free and the site is cared for by English Heritage.
