About Prideaux Place

Prideaux Place is an Elizabethan manor house on the hill above Padstow, completed in 1592 and lived in by the same family for fourteen generations since. The house is seen by guided tour only, which takes you through the historic rooms with the family's own stories, and the grounds and terraced gardens look out over an ancient deer park towards the Camel estuary. The Terrace Cafe serves refreshments and cream teas, and private tours and group visits for parties of fifteen or more can be arranged through the office, with foreign-language guides available. The house and grounds open seasonally, roughly from Easter to early October, and only on weekdays, so a weekend visit is not possible; grounds-only entry is offered if you just want the gardens and the cafe. Allow about two hours for house, garden and tea. The website publishes nothing on parking, step-free access or dogs, so ring ahead if any of those matter, and note the approach from the harbour is uphill. It is a short walk from the town centre, so it pairs naturally with the harbour or the Camel Trail, and suits anyone who likes country houses with the family still in residence.
