Trenance Gardens is Newquay's main public park, sitting in the valley just outside the town centre and forming the heart of the wider Trenance Leisure Park. The gardens themselves are planted with rose beds, seasonal flowers and old trees, and the Tourist Information Centre produces a free Tree Walk booklet for anyone who wants to identify them. Beside the gardens is the boating lake, where pedal boats can be hired and ducks and other wildfowl gather to be fed. Trenance Cottages, a Grade II listed building dating back to the 1800s, houses a tea room serving Cornish cream teas along with displays of old photographs and local history. The same valley contains Newquay Zoo, a miniature railway, crazy golf, the Heron Tennis Centre and the Waterworld leisure centre with its 25 metre pool and fun pool, plus two free play parks with swings and slides and Cornwall's largest wooden outdoor skate park, which is free to use if you bring your own board. Allow an hour or two for the gardens and lake alone, or most of a day if you add the zoo and other attractions. It suits families looking for a break from the beaches and anyone wanting a level, sheltered walk close to town.
